In 2020, John and his New Jersey skate community were devastated by the suicide of a dear friend. The depths of that pain led John to question if he was doing enough for his own mental health as well as those he loved and thus continued the introspective journey and years of studying that led to Nothing But Today.
Leaning on the visual storytelling skills he honed while earning his bachelor's degree in New York City's The School of Visual Arts film program, in 2021 John teamed up with DC Shoes to create the award winning mini documentary on mental health, This Too Shall Pass. The overwhelming response to the film validated John's desire to further spread the message of stress reduction and self care on a grand scale.”
